The construction company tasked with building the bird enclosure needed Kiwi Vision to deliver accurate locations and heights prior to building the steel structures that would go in. As-built plans following construction were also necessary to help with structural safety and soundness checks. This is where Kiwi Vision stepped in to help complete this project.

Topographical Survey

We began with a full-scale topographical survey of the enclosure site, capturing accurate levels, contours, and existing features. This data established the foundation for the design and prefabrication process, which the construction company would use to manufacture components to exact specifications.

Construction – Set Out and As-built

During construction, our team provided detailed set-out services to position structural elements, enabling the pre-fabricated components to be installed correctly and efficiently. Once construction was complete, we carried out an as-built survey to document the final layout and elevations. These plans were supplied to the client to assist with structural verification, compliance checks, and long-term maintenance of the enclosure.

The Result

Kiwi Vision’s precise surveying work allowed the bird enclosure in Te Wao Nui to be built exactly to design, supporting a smooth construction process and a structurally sound outcome. The completed enclosure provides a safe and engaging environment for native bird species, giving Auckland Zoo visitors the chance to experience New Zealand’s wildlife up close.

Our contribution helped the construction team deliver a space that combines practicality and enjoyment – a lasting feature within one of Auckland’s most beloved attractions, with over 800,000 visitors visiting Auckland Zoo in 2024.
